A special guided tour of Knowsley Hall hosted by the Earl and Countess of Derby\, with dinner and an overnight stay. This experience offers a look into the Hall’s history and stories. \nArrive in the afternoon for a private guided tour through the magnificent rooms of Knowsley Hall\, where the Earl and Countess of Derby will share fascinating insights and family history passed down through generations. The Earl and Countess of Derby have worked since 1994 on the enormous project of restoring the state rooms of Knowsley Hall\, back to their former glory. \nContinue the day with pre-dinner drinks in the company of the Earl and Countess of Derby in the Walnut Drawing Room before enjoying an exquisite four-course dinner in the State Dining Room. \nDuring the day The Countess of Derby will be available to talk about\, and sign\, her latest book about the 14th Earl ‘A North American Tour Journal – The Making of a Prime Minister’ \nComplete your unforgettable experience with an overnight stay\, in a room designed by the Countess of Derby\, waking to both continental and full English breakfast options. Before you leave take a stroll in the Capability Brown gardens. \nThe guided tour has a bespoke art exhibition entitled ‘A Passion for The Turf’. The unique exhibition will showcase equestrian paintings from the family’s private collection\, not usually on public display\, with a variety of racing memorabilia including – photographs\, trophies\, racing cards and silks from the archives. \nFew families can claim a more exceptional position in racing than the Earls of Derby. The family’s association with racing can be traced back as far back as Ferdinando\, 5th Earl of Derby\, who was keenly involved in the sport during the late sixteenth century. The 12th Earl forged the family’s indelible association with horse racing when he established the race called The Oaks in 1779 which has survived as one of the classic events in the racing calendar. During a dinner party at The Oaks The Derby was dreamt up\, with Lord Derby’s guests having to decide whether to name it after their host or his friend Sir Charles Bunbury. Legend has it the decision to call it The Derby was made on the toss of a coin leading the race which was destined to become the most famous horse race in the world\, to be called ‘The Derby’ in 1780. \n  \n  \n
